The NSC’s StudentTracker service allows schools to query a nationwide database of post-secondary enrollment and degree records to track the enrollment history of former applicants and students, thus improving their educational research results and recruiting efforts.
The Research Associate position reports to the Assistant Director of Research and will be responsible for presenting detailed information regarding StudentTracker for Colleges & Universities to groups and individuals requesting such information. The primary audience is institutional researchers, but may also include others involved in the assessment of educational policies. This position will work with personnel from the higher education community to foster a better understanding of Clearinghouse data, its utility, and will be the lead on educating the StudentTracker for Colleges & Universities community. This position will also assist in the creation of research reports by preparing literature reviews on research topics.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver informative sessions in person regarding Clearinghouse services designed for researchers and evaluators who subscribe to the Clearinghouse services.
- Write literature reviews to provide context for research findings.
- Assist in documenting a data warehouse comprised of large datasets in a SAS Windows environment.
- Handle basic information requests from external clients and the education community.
- Act as a spokesperson for the Clearinghouse, making presentations and participating on panels at industry seminars and conferences.
- Interact with research groups and government organizations and maintain relationships.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ Years of experience in research field
- Experience in public speaking
- Some formal education or training in the use of descriptive and multivariate analysis and research methods
- SAS programming experience or other package that is command line driving (STATA, SPLUS, R) or proficiency with SPSS syntax
- Large database and data warehouse experience
- 2+ Years of experience with data cleaning and validation
- Previous experience in educational organizations at the postsecondary level focusing on student outcomes is preferred but not required
- Success collaborating on research projects for at least 2 years
- One year of experience with balancing competing considerations regarding data sensitivity.
- Experience working effectively without close supervision.
