This position reports to the Assistant Director of Research. The incumbent will respond to StudentTracker research related questions from internal and external sources as they are related to methodologies, code sets, and data definitions from secondary and post-secondary educational institutions. There is occasional travel overnight for multiple nights at a time.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Use discretion and judgment in responding to questions from educational researchers on research using Clearinghouse data related to methodologies, code sets, and data definitions.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of research methods in the social sciences in conducting literature reviews, proofreading manuscripts, and formatting tables for print and/or presentation.
  • Monitor a National Student Clearinghouse researcher list serve, triage email messages referred to the research department, and ensure that questions are answered accurately and correctly in an acceptable timeframe.
  • Provide data documentation for Clearinghouse participation rates for use in national studies.
  • Record all inquiries and resolutions to analyze trends as well as to create documentation for internal and/or external purposes.
  • Recommends process improvements as appropriate to address recurrent issues and questions.
  • Works closely with the StudentTracker team to coordinate re-processing of data when an issue is detected.
  • Monitors usage of the Research Services website and update research articles as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3+ Years of experience in research field, or Master’s Degree with one year of academic research experience
  • Demonstrated exceptional literary skills (reading and writing)
  • At least two years of formal education in advanced research methods in the social sciences
  • Demonstrated ability to apply advanced knowledge of research methods
  • 3 years experience using data analysis software
  • Previous work experience in a not-for-profit, student loan, and/or collegiate organization
  • One year of Educational research
  • SAS 9.1 or higher or SPSS 14 or higher programming experience
  • Large database and data warehouse experience
  • Experience using NSC StudentTracker service preferred
  • Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access
  • May additional equivalent experience above the required minimum substitute for the level of education? No

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for up to 7 hours per day.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
  • Must be flexible to do out-of-town assignments and travel occasionally when needed.
  • Travel via car and airplane.
  • Must live within a commutable distance of Herndon, VA.
